Job Description |
SUMMARY:
The Genealogy Product Manager will support the continued growth of ProQuest’s genealogy products. In addition to daily support to ensure products function as designed for customers, the Product Manager will be heavily involved in research and product development for new online genealogy database and enhancements in functionality and content for existing genealogy products.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Manage the sustaining publishing efforts for the current genealogy product line of HeritageQuest Online, Digital Sanborn Maps, ProQuest Obituaries, including adding new content and functionality, resolving customer and sales issues, coordinating work with Content Operations, IT, and Marketing to ensure success of the assigned products.
2. Provide publishing support for publishing partners’products, Ancestry Library Edition in all global markets ans Historic Map Works to ensure successful launch and functionality for customers.
3. Work with VP, Publishing and Dir. of Product Development to research and identify content valuable for the creation of new products. Assist in the writing of Concept Documents and Business Cases to gain approval for new products. Define product requirements from a content and functionality perspective. Develop technical specifications and business requirments, design documentation, and other tools as necessary for development of new products.
4. Monitor competitive products with respect to sales in the library market, content included, product functionality, and pricing. Recommend competitive strategies; work with Marketing, as needed, to develop competitive responses.
5. Provide support and training for Marketing and Sales for developing product positioning, training initiatives for PQ Sales and product trainers, and providing information for the PQ Product Book and collateral materials.
6. Support sales with in-field customer calls as well as handle customer phone and email queries about genealogy products.
7. Represent PQ genealogy products at major library trade shows, historical and genealogy conferences. |
Required Skills |
Experience
Required: 1-3 years of product management, publishing, and/or marketing experience
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree minimum
Field of expertise: History
Preferred Degree: Masters
Field of expertise: History or Library of Science
Special Certification: MLS
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities/Mental Requirements
Required:
Knowledge of and experience in working with academic and public libraries.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Outlook.
Demonstrated successful project management skills.
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
High level of interpersonal skills to work with customers, sales, and other PQ staff as well as publishers and representatives of key repositories.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and achieve successful outcomes. |
