SME Instructor Deficiencies

I wrote this paper early in the Tusculum program.

As an instructor and, eventually, an academic department head at a for-profit college, I was exceptionally concerned about the quality of instruction — from a pedagogical perspective — provided by subject-matter experts who were hired to teach there.

Using SME’s who have no adult education background (even a short introduction to the basic principles) as adjunct faculty is the norm at most for-profit colleges.

Tusculum requires a thesis for its M. A. This paper became the foundation for my thesis.
